I am so very excited about this year and about this brand new building. I wish I can stay here forever but I'm quite sure this will become one of the shortest years in my life.

So many lovely texture everywhere, I'm seriously considering doing Kings Cross version of my Lethaby bags...


待望の新校舎！まだ、学校始まっていないので、全体を見ていないけれど、すごく好み！大興奮！
とりあえず自分が今まで見て来た大学の校舎の中では、この校舎が一番好き。味の出ているレンガ、赤く塗られた柱、モダンなガラス張りとコンクリート、正方形の木のフロアタイル・・・。素敵なディテールに感動している間に、最後の一年なんて終わっちゃうんじゃないかな。寂しいなー。

Our Bomberman Water Fiesta was featured in oh comely magazine (issue seven, September/October 2011)! With photography by Cynthia Chen and words by Dani Lurie!!

このたび、私たちのボンバーマンのプロジェクトが雑誌『oh comely』に載りました!

The magazine is so girlie, I wasn't sure how our Bomberman imagery would fit in, but it really is an honour!
Sneak peak of the rest of the magazine is as follows. I love the art direction of this magazine! I bought my copy in a corner shop in Soho (the one with big 'Creative Review' written on) but I know for a fact that WH Smiths stocks oh comely magazine and I'm sure there are plenty of other stocklists around too. Do have a look if you happen to find it!

とてもガーリーな雑誌なので、正直ちょっとびっくりしたし、あんまりこの雑誌には合わないんじゃないかと思っていたのだけれど、実際刊行されたのを見てみると、やっぱり若干合ってない気が！笑
それでも元々好きな雑誌だったので嬉しい！
以下のとおり、本当にお洒落でガーリーな雑誌です。こんな可愛い雑誌に、手作りヘルメット姿の自分の写真が載る日が来るとは・・・。まあ、ある意味私たちも、この雑誌に負けないくらい可愛いですが！

Foster + Partners Exhibition in Hong Kong

I went to "The Art of Architecture: Foster + Partners" at Hong Kong Arts Centre, on the very first morning of its opening day. The lucky bit was that I caught people from Foster + Partners explaining each piece to its gallery staff. That for me became like a great unexpected free tour of the exhibition and Foster's work.
Foster's architecture was one of the things that I wanted to see in Hong Kong, but this exhibition ended up being much more exciting than his actual works in Hong Kong (the airport and HSBC building).
The exhibition contained most intricate and fascinating models. Also, unlike his film ("How Much Does Your Building Weigh Mr.Foster?"), the exhibition wasn't really about Norman Foster himself but Foster + Partners as a whole. The photographs of his studio really focused on different people from his work.

フォスター＋パートナーズの展示イン香港。
香港の楽しみのひとつにフォスターの建築があったものの、空港もHSBCもイマイチだった。が、この展示は面白かった。
彼らの主要な建築物が網羅され、精密かつスケールもでかくて金かかってそうーな威圧感たっぷりな模型が並ぶ会場は圧巻。
初日の朝一に行ったら、たまたまフォスター＋パートナーズの方がいて、「様々なコンセプトをテストするために、様々な模型を作るのよ」と言っていた。まあ、建築家はみんなそう言うのかもしれないけれど。それでも、模型といえど、多種多様。そして、模型のくせに感動的な美しさ。

Graphic Design in Hong Kong

Graphic Design in Hong Kong was quite exciting. Not mind-blowing, but I saw nice images, typography, posters here and there.
Because of its history with England, I was expecting to find some resemblance of Britishness, but I was surprised to find more similarities with Japan than with England.
Hong Kong to me was like China Town meets Tokyo. I'm familiar with both (thanks to China Town that are all over in the world), Hong Kong wasn't a place that felt completely new and different, but rather I surprisingly felt familiar with the place.

香港のグラフィックデザインは、予想していたよりもレベル自体は高かった。けれど、もっと香港・中国らしさがあるかと思っていたらそうでもなく、イギリスらしさがあるかと思えばそうでもなく、意外と日本っぽくてびっくりした。
日本の広告にかっこつけて英語で文章が書かれている、みたいなノリで、香港の広告にかっこつけて日本語が書かれてたりして面白かった。
自分にとって香港とは、中華街ミーツ東京、でした。中華街も東京も慣れ親しんだ場所だから、意外と親近感わいて、なんとなく落ち着けた。

I've loved the work of Hong Kong superstar graphic designer Alan Chan. Typical workaholic, he does a lot of branding/identity work in different fields. In particular, I adore his rebranding for Hong Kong city itself.
I went to Alan Chan's office and he had a large painting by Damien Hirst, which I envied a lot.

香港の有名なグラフィックデザイナー、Alan Chan。日本の三井住友のアイデンティティーや、Franc Francのロゴなど日本でも多く活動している、日本人にもなじみの深いデザイナー。
彼の作品は、西洋と東洋らしさの両方がモダンでかっこよく出ていて、すごく香港らしいと思うし、香港のデザインとはそういうのなのでは！と期待していったら、主流はどうやらそうでもないみたい。

Hong Kong 2011

I stayed at my friend's house in Hong Kong and I had this fabulous sea side view from my room. Made me feel like Charlotte from Lost in Translation! I just loved looking at the view everyday.
